Three Arsenal Women players have been included in the Professional Footballers' Association Women's Super League Team of the Year. The selections of defender Emily Fox, midfielder Mariona Caldentey and forward Alessia Russo were announced on Tuesday evening.
Fox, Caldentey and Russo were recognised by their peers for their performances across the 2025-26 campaign. Their inclusion means Arsenal have the joint-most representatives in the XI alongside champions Manchester City and Chelsea, who also provided three players each.
Manchester City's Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw, who scored 21 league goals, was named the WSL Players' Player of the Year. She is joined in the forward line by Russo and Chelsea's Lauren James. The midfield unit features Caldentey alongside City's Yui Hasegawa and Manchester United's Jess Park.
Fox is selected in a back four that includes Manchester City's Kerstin Casparij, Tottenham Hotspur's Toko Koga and Chelsea's Ellie Carpenter. Chelsea goalkeeper Hannah Hampton completes the lineup.
The PFA awards are voted for exclusively by current players across the leagues. This year's WSL selection sparked debate among observers, particularly around the defensive shape. "The purist in me certainly finds something irksome about having three predominantly right-sided full-backs and just one centre-back in the team of the year," one analyst noted. However, they praised the recognition for Koga in her debut WSL season.
Some felt other Arsenal players were unfortunate to miss out. Former Gunner Katie McCabe was mentioned as a candidate, while City's Alex Greenwood was also highlighted as a consistent performer. The selections cap a strong individual season for the Arsenal trio, who are all key figures in Jonas Eidevall's squad. Their contributions were vital in a season where Arsenal's overall team stats were among the league's best.
The announcement comes as Arsenal Women prepare for their next competitive fixtures. The team will look to build on this individual recognition when the new WSL season begins next month.
