Arsenal Women have made seven new signings this summer as they aim to close the four-point gap to Manchester City in the WSL title race. League standing (final 2025 table -- new season not yet under way): 2nd in FA WSL, 51 pts, 15W-6D-1L from 22 games, recent form WWWDW.
What’s driving Arsenal Women’s summer overhaul?
Georgia Stanway arrived from Bayern Munich with a clear message: she wants to win the league. The England midfielder’s first act was to get a tattoo of Arsenal’s anthem lyric “whatever the weather” inked on her arm before stepping onto Emirates Stadium turf. “It shows I’m going to give absolutely everything for this club,” she said. “I want to hit the ground running, play my game, connect with my teammates and the fans.”
Lotte Wubben-Moy, a lifelong fan who joined Arsenal’s academy at 13, embodies the club’s culture shift. “She goes all in,” Wubben-Moy said of Stanway. “That’s Georgia. I like that.” After struggling to lock down a starting berth in defence, Wubben-Moy is ready to stake a claim in the first XI. “I’ve always felt ready,” she said. “When I get my moment, I deliver.”
Why the squad needed a revamp
Arsenal exited last season with 53 goals scored and 14 conceded (+39 goal difference), but finished four points behind Manchester City. Jodie Taylor, the club’s technical director since January, acknowledged the need for change. “They’re both absolute legends,” she said of departing stars Beth Mead and Katie McCabe. “But we always knew this window was going to come with some changes.”
Wubben-Moy framed the shift as a sign of growth. “If you speak to a player and they don’t say they’re nimble, you’ve got someone that’s not built for the game,” she said. “We’ve become a nimble team, a team that can move with the ebb and flow of women’s football.”
What comes next for Arsenal Women?
Stanway cited Arsenal’s early pursuit as a key factor in her move. “Arsenal came in early doors,” she said. “They were super loyal from the beginning and wanted me even when I wasn’t available. It’s nice feeling being wanted.”
With seven signings already completed, Arsenal are building a squad designed to overtake City. Wubben-Moy stressed the club’s collective ambition. “The opportunity we have and that I see for us as a team, as a collective, is something that really excites me.”
Arsenal Women open their season aiming to turn last year’s 51-point haul into a title-winning push. Their new recruits are already talking the talk - now they must walk it on the pitch.
