Arsenal Women concluded their pre-season camp in La Manga with a 3-2 defeat to AC Milan, despite goals from Leah Williamson and Selina Cerci. The Italian side secured the win in scorching conditions, leaving the Gunners with work to do ahead of the new Women's Super League season. Arsenal finished second in the 2025 FA WSL table with 51 points, just four behind leaders Manchester City, and will look to build on that form when the new campaign begins.

How did the match unfold?

The Gunners started brightly, with Georgia Stanway and Olivia Smith combining well in attack. However, AC Milan took the lead against the run of play through Thea Kyvag after 25 minutes. Arsenal responded with Russo and Blackstenius hitting the crossbar, while Kim Little saw a volley saved by the Milan keeper.

Arsenal's second-half fightback

Arsenal levelled the score early in the second half when Smith's corner was headed home by Williamson. Smith nearly added another before academy prospects Kyri Teer-Hutchins, Amelia Marriott, Abi Conway, and Bella Cowley made valuable contributions. However, Sara Stokic restored Milan's lead with a curling strike, and despite Cerci's late equaliser, Monica Renzotti scored a last-minute winner for the Italian side.

What's next for Arsenal Women?

Before their WSL opener against Brighton & Hove Albion, Arsenal will host friendlies against Paris FC (August 23) and Charlton Athletic (August 26) at Mangata Developments Stadium. Tickets for both matches are available now.
